What is Lumenis Stellar M22 laser?

Lumenis Stellar M22 laser is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatment. It uses laser energy to generate heat directed at different targets. When targeted at vasculature, veins and skin redness can be reduced. When adjusted to pigmentation wavelengths, breakdown of melanin occurs to allow absorption and removal of abnormal dark spots.  Tattoos and many other targets can also be addressed in this manner.  Another mechanism of action is to use pulses of heat to the dermis to produce new collagen (AKA collagenogenesis), or deliver precise, focused heat just under the skin to cause resurfacing.  The Lumenis Stellar M22 module is used to treat over 30 skin conditions!

This device contains 4 specific technologies in 1.  These technologies are:

  • Stellar IPL
  • ResurFX
  • Multi-Spot Nd: Yag
  • Q-Switch Nd: Yag

Stellar IPL

This setting employs Intense Pulsed Light to treat various skin conditions. It has 9 easily changeable filters. This allows personalized treatment for you. It treats acne, hyperpigmentation, and vascular conditions and can permanently remove hair, based on the filter used.

The Stellar IPL has Optimal Pulse Technology(OPT), which ensures that the required amount and shape of light energy is delivered.

ResurFX

ResurFX is a fractional resurfacing laser that uses a 1565 nm laser to penetrate the skin and treat scars, stretch marks, lentigines, and melasma. It stimulates new collagen formation (collagenogenesis) and improves skin texture and tone.

It requires only one pass to work and can produce over 600 combinations of shape, density, and size of the laser beams.

ResurFX has CoolScan™, a special technology that delivers the laser beams in a controlled form. This prevents overheating and heat accumulation. It also has controlled contact cooling. These ensure your comfort during the treatment.

Multi-Spot Nd: Yag

This component uses multiple sequential pulsing (MSP) to treat vascular conditions, hemangiomas, telangiectasias, and leg veins. It allows for cooling between pulse sets. This ensures the skin doesn’t overheat or burn.

Q-Switch Nd: Yag

This modality produces short, intense light pulses (faster than IPL pulses) for the acoustic treatment of hyperpigmentation and tattoos rather than heat. This reduces the risk of heat-based side effects such as burns and hyperpigmentation.  It uses a 1064 nm wavelength, which can reach deeper layers of the skin.

It can also treat acne, rosacea, pigmentation, and vascular lesions.

What to Expect During Stellar M22 Treatment?

During the M22 treatment, patients can have a very comfortable experience with minimal discomfort. Stellar M22 has an inbuilt cooling system that protects the skin, while the precise application targets specific skin depths and deals with all kinds of skin issues.

How Long Does M22 Treatment Last?

M22 Treatments typically last between 15 to 30 minutes per session, depending on the area and condition being treated. Treatment using this method is very precise and effective in creating the desired result.

How many sessions of Stellar M22 are required?

It may take 1 to 5 sessions of Stellar M22 IPL Treatment to see noticeable results, depending on goals and the type of treatment. Resurfacing, for example, can be a one-time treatment, while tattoo removal or IPL may take several sessions.

                        What does Stellar M22 treat?

The Stellar M22 treats a variety of skin issues, including vascular disorders (rosacea, broken capillaries, port wine stains), pigmentation issues (sun spots, age spots, freckles, melasma), skin rejuvenation (improving tone and texture, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and encouraging collagen production), and acne (reducing inflammation and bacteria).

How much does the Stellar M22 treatment cost?

The type of modality used, the number of sessions required, and the size of the treatment area will affect the cost.  You can budget between $200 and $1,000 per session. Our pricing, however, is competitive in our area.

What are the side effects of Stellar M22?

Common side effects are slight swelling and redness, which usually subside in about 2 to 3 days. Risks of blistering, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation exist but are not common.

                                  Is Stellar M22 painful?

Generally, the pain of M22 is minimal, like a snap from a rubber band. However, we offer topical numbing, Zimmer cryo cool air blower, and many other modalities, such as nitrous gas, for all of our procedures.

What is M22 dry eye treatment?

Stellar M22 IPL can be used over either internal or external eye shields, on and around the eyes, to treat dry eye syndrome. IPL reduces the thickness of meibomian gland discharge, allowing it to be unblocked and massaged out, which then allows the normal oil production to resume and keep eyes lubricated.

What is the M22 laser for rosacea?

Lumenis Stellar M22 has a vascular setting that targets small blood vessels and capillaries involved in rosacea.  The treatment of these vessels reduces redness and flushing associated with rosacea.

How many sessions of Lumenis M22 are needed?

The number of treatment sessions depends on the targeted problem, its severity, and the goals for results. Most modalities on the Stellar M22 will need about 3 to 5 sessions to deliver optimal results.

                                                  How does M22 laser work?

The M22 delivers intense light pulses to the skin. Depending on the chosen wavelength, light is absorbed by either melanin (pigmentation), blood vessels, or water to either break down the target and allow for the body to remove it, or cause a resurfacing effect on the skin when targeting its water content.  These reactions can improve the appearance of various skin conditions.

Is Stellar M22 the same as IPL?

Stellar M22 includes an IPL (intense pulsed light) modality as well as a Q-switch laser for tattoo removal, and a 1565 laser for resurfacing. Stellar’s IPL is a more advanced and versatile device than traditional IPL machines, with its automated safety settings and staggering of heat in darker skin types to reduce risks of complications.

What happens if you wait too long between laser sessions?

The results of previous treatments may start to fade if you wait too long before your next laser session. It’s important to follow your provider’s recommendations for timing.
