How Morpheus8 Works

Before & Preparation

While there’s no medical contraindications to Morpheus8 treatment regarding previously injected Botox or hyaluronic acid fillers, we usually recommend waiting about 7 days after getting Botox and about one to two months after receiving dermal fillers to be treated with Morpheus8 in the same area. If you are getting Morpheus done on your face, please arrive at your appointment free of makeup. Similarly, if you are getting Morpheus on your body, do not apply any self-tanner, creams, or lotions, and try to avoid sun exposure on both the face and body before treatment. It is also recommended to avoid any products that irritate the skin, such as harsh exfoliants, retin-A, waxing, sugaring, etc. in days prior to your Morpheus8 treatment.

During the Procedure

When you arrive at your appointment, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area to maximize the comfort associated with the treatment. Your provider will then administer the treatment to your area of concern. Small gold-covered needles will pass through the skin and distribute radiofrequency energy within or under the skin in a highly customized fashion to address your unique concern and body area.

Aftercare & Recovery

For superficial treatments, patients can expect to appear a bit sunburned in the treated area for one to two days following treatment. With deeper areas that involve fat, with higher intensity treatments, and with extra passes, skin redness and bruises can last up to about 2 weeks. We recommend to avoid sun exposure for at least seven to fourteen days following treatment. Makeup can safely be worn on the second day after the procedure and mineral-based sunscreen should be applied on all treated areas starting twenty-four hours after the Morpheus8. It is recommended to discontinue the use of harsh exfoliants like retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, etc., for the first five days after treatment. Hydroquinone can be used up until the Morpheus8 treatment, and the following skincare products are safe to use post-treatment:

  • B5
  • Bio-Peptides
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Growth Factor Serums
  • Gentle cleansers
  • Mineral-Based Sunscreen

Potential Contraindications

Morpheus 8 is contraindicated for pregnant patients, individuals with electric implants or pacemakers, serious or chronic medical conditions, and certain auto-immune disorders. While not a medical contraindication, Morpheus 8 is discouraged in areas treated with Botox or other neuromodulators within 7 days. Similarly, we recommended waiting 1-2 months to be treated with Morpheus after getting dermal fillers in the same treatment area. Patients can, however, get Botox and other neuromodulators on the same day as their Morpheus 8 treatment as long as they do Morpheus8 first.

Similar & Related Procedures

Several other treatments use radiofrequency and/or microneedling for skin rejuvenation in some ways similar to Morpheus8. Body sculpting treatments that utilize radiofrequency to melt fat include Emsculpt Neo and Viora Skin Tightening. Of course, traditional microneedling treatments can also be combined with PRP or PRF to improve skin tone and texture. However, never before has a technology combined these two treatment modalities to create such beautiful and highly customizable results!

Morpheus8 Side Effects & Risks

Practitioner examining side effects after Morpheus 8

Patients can expect to feel some warmth in the treated area, which may also be accompanied by several other mild side effects, such as minor swelling, redness, or pink/red grid marks. These side effects are considered normal and will likely resolve on their own between one day and two weeks. Another potential side effect is unwanted volume loss in areas where volume is desirable, such as the midface area. This volume loss is often related to deeper settings with longer needle depth designed to target subcutaneous fat. Choosing a knowledgeable and experienced provider, and communicating your preferences are of the utmost importance in avoiding this potential side effect, as a skilled practitioner would be aware of and work to avoid this occurrence.

Morpheus8 FAQs

How long does Morpheus8 last for?

You can expect your results from Morpheus8 treatment to last between one to three years, as aging continues and skin undergoes damage from the aging process and external factors. However, maintenance treatments can help lengthen your results’ duration and help continue to combat the various visible signs of aging skin.

Does Morpheus8 work?

Clinical trial data as well as the popularity of the procedure are attestments to the effectiveness of Morpheus8! Morpheus8 helps correct skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles and improves skin tone and texture. With specific protocols, it can also be adjusted to reduce fat, sweating, acne, and/or stretchmarks. When administered by a seasoned practitioner like the ones at Cosmetic Injectables Center in Sherman Oaks, Morpheus8 treatment can work to create beautiful results.

Is Morpheus8 worth the money?

Morpheus8 is absolutely worth the money if your skin concerns include skin laxity, fine lines/wrinkles, and uneven skin tone and texture. It is also worth its weight in gold for treatment of acne, stretchmarks, sweating, and fat reduction. When you book a consultation at Cosmetic Injectables Center, one of our expert providers will assess if Morpheus8 is the best treatment suited for your needs. However, surgery may sometimes be recommended if the patient’s skin laxity or adipose fat layers are severe.

What does Morpheus 8 do for skin?

Morpheus8 is suitable for all skin types and can treat a wide variety of skin concerns, including improving acne and the appearance of acne scarring, stretchmarks, uneven skin tone and texture, pores, skin sagging/laxity, and fine lines and wrinkles. Morpheus8 combines the collagen stimulation benefits of microneedling with the skin tightening and fat melting capabilities of radiofrequency, making it ideal for both sagging skin on the face and a body contouring treatment.

Can you see results after 1 Morpheus8 treatment?

Yes, results are apparent after one Morpheus8 treatment, although most practitioners will recommend a series of at least three treatments to see the full results. Patience and multiple treatments are likely necessary to achieve the desired outcome. The full results will be evident three months after your final treatment, as the body’s remodeling cascade after radiofrequency can take up to three months to complete, meaning the skin tightening effects are still taking place.

How many sessions of Morpheus8 do you need?

For ideal results, three to four sessions are recommended. These treatments should be spaced out about one month apart, as it takes your body roughly one month to produce new collagen. Maintenance treatments can be done as often as needed as long as they are scheduled for at least one month after the last treatment.

Can Morpheus 8 damage your face?

Morpheus8 uses bipolar radiofrequency, which is considered safe for all skin types, as opposed to lasers that can get picked up by the body’s innate pigment cells. However, Morpheus8’s microneedling can cause some minor bruising, swelling, and scabbing for a few days. These side effects are typical and usually resolve within forty-eight to seventy-two hours. It is important to avoid picking at any scabs caused as a result of the microneedling, as it can potentially cause some minor damage to the skin.

How painful is Morpheus 8?

There is some pain associated with the Morpheus8 treatment which can be reduced with appropriate numbing agents. Generally speaking, the body contouring function of Morpheus8 is more painful than the face or neck treatment. This is due to the extended needle depth reaching the subcutaneous fat layer. A topical numbing agent can be administered for one hour before the Morpheus8 treatment and sometimes numbing injections to increase the comfort associated with the procedure.

Do you still need Botox after Morpheus 8?

As with many treatments, Morpheus 8 can be used in conjunction with Botox and fillers. Botox and other neuromodulators should be administered after Morpheus8 treatment and can be done in the same appointment! Botox and other neuromodulators temporarily freeze the muscles that scrunch up and create wrinkles over time, whereas Morpheus8 works to smooth out existing wrinkles. Combining these two techniques is an excellent way to ensure the longevity of your results.

Who is not a candidate for Morpheus 8?

Morpheus8 is an excellent treatment for individuals with mild and moderate wrinkling, sagging, jowling, unwanted fat, acne, stretchmarks, sweating and acne. For those with severe jowls and skin laxity, Morpheus8 may not be the proper treatment, and surgery may likely be recommended. Morpheus8 is, however, safe on all Fitzpatrick skin types. Other people who are not candidates for Morpheus8 include those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a metal implant located near the treatment area such as a screw or a plate, have open wounds in the treatment area, or have a pacemaker or glucose monitor.
