Laser For Pigmentation Sherman Oaks

What is Laser for Pigmentation?

This non-invasive procedure uses targeted beams of light to remove areas of unwanted pigmentation without physically harming the skin. The Cosmetic Injectables Center has embraced the Cutera Excel V laser into its practice. It is among the best and most specialized lasers on the market for pigmentation or skin smoothing issues. This laser can help to diminish 20 variations in redness, purples, browns, and blues in irregular skin tones. Adjustable wavelengths allow practitioners to target pigmentations precisely. Our treatment has both a focused pigmentation laser and a laser genesis setting that can help:

  • Even out skin tone
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Remove freckles, dark spots, birthmarks, and other pigmentation issues.

The Laser genesis setting is also excellent for stimulating collagen production, reducing wrinkles, spider veins, and enlarged pores. Our experienced practitioners will help you achieve your desired results in an expedited amount of time – usually 7 to 10 days, or even immediately, depending upon your goals. Several treatments may be necessary.

How the Procedure Works

The Cutera Laser is a focused, single wavelength, high-energy laser that your provider can adjust to an optimal pigment setting. Since there isn’t a variety of wavelengths coming out of the handpiece (as there are with some IPL machines), there’s less likelihood of unintentional side effects. This laser explicitly targets melanin pigmentations; produced by pigment cells called melanocytes. The optimized wavelength gets absorbed by the pigments. The energy then forces the pigment to break apart, and the body’s waste system consequently removes the debris. Refer to the section below for more information about the treatment process.

Before & Preparation

  • When you arrive for your appointment, you will fill out a brief questionnaire. This questionnaire will allow our providers to understand your pigmentation concerns better and adjust the laser settings to an appropriate level for your skin type.
  • If needed, your provider may prescribe a pretreatment topical regiment during your first visit to be used for a couple of weeks before your first laser session.
  • We highly advise that individuals pre-treat with topicals to prevent possible hyper or hypopigmentation side effects. For more information on our uniquely formulated medical-grade topical treatments, click here.
  • Avoid exposure to the sun or tanning beds and use a minimum of SPF 30 sunscreen.
  • Discontinue self-tanners, creams containing retinol, whitening, or steroid creams for two weeks. Ensure resolution of any darkening from previous self-tanners or sun.
  • We advise against any inflammatory procedures such as waxing, laser, threading, or tweezing on the day of your treatment.
  • Disclose to your provider any treatments you have had recently and any medications you may be taking.
  • Please arrive with a clean face, free of makeup.
  • Please wear clothing that allows access to the treatment area for treatment areas other than the face

During the Procedure

  • Your provider will first discuss your pigmentation concerns and talk you through the process. They will put your mind at ease by checking in with you throughout the treatment, ensuring the highest level of comfortability.
  • You will be required to wear protective eye goggles to protect your eyes from the laser. Your provider will also be wearing protective eyewear.
  • Once the treatment area has been cleansed and prepared, the laser treatment will begin.
Laser For Pigmentation Treatment
  • The procedure typically takes 1 to 10 minutes for focused laser and 15 to 30 minutes for laser genesis, depending upon the size of the treatment area.
  • Patients may feel a slight stinging sensation like a rubber band snap. Still, the feeling is exceptionally minimal (a one out of ten on the pain scale).
  • The focused laser device contains a cooling agent. This feature cools the top layers of skin as treatment persists, helping to maximize your comfort and reduce irritation to prevent further release of pigmentation by your cells.
Laser For Pigmentation Before And After

Aftercare & Recovery

  • There is no downtime associated with laser pigmentation treatment. You can return to your daily activities directly after your appointment.
  • After the treatment, you may experience some redness, an increase in the pigmentation color, or mild swelling. These minimal side effects will subside within a few hours or days.
  • We advise against rubbing, scratching, or irritating the treated area to avoid interference with the healing process.
  • We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure and extreme heat. Wear sunscreen for the first two weeks after laser pigmentation.

Laser for Pigmentation FAQs

Can hyperpigmentation be removed by laser?

Absolutely! Thanks to cutting-edge technology, resolving pigmentation issues has never been more effortless. Laser treatments can remove dark spots, patches, and redness such as hyperpigmentation, birthmarks, sun spots, age spots, and freckles.

How many laser sessions are needed for pigmentation?

The number of sessions required depends on the severity and type of the pigmentation issue, skin type, and treatment choice. Certain laser treatments can remove specific types of pigmentation after one to three sessions. Still, other pigmentation issues may need six to eight sessions.

Does pigmentation come back after laser?

No, the treated pigmentation spots will not return. However, new pigmentation can be erratic and may arise due to sun or UV exposure, hormonal factors, or aging. Generally speaking, you cannot permanently cure it because your skin will continue to produce more pigmentation over time due to various unavoidable factors.

Is laser treatment safe for hyperpigmentation?

Yes. Several different lasers and settings are available for safe and effective hyperpigmentation treatment on various skin types and tones. Pre- and post-treatment topical products can help reduce risks and side effects.

What is the best laser to remove pigmentation?

Cutera Excel V is currently one of the most advanced pigmentation laser treatments. However, the best laser depends on individual skin type and the depth and type of pigmentation in the skin. Your provider will assist you in developing a treatment plan to best suit your skin needs.

How long does it take for pigmentation to fade after laser?

Pigmentation begins to fade one to two weeks after laser treatment. However, the dark spots or discoloration may appear worse immediately after treatment. This side effect gradually disappears as the lymphatic system flushes the pigmentation from the body.

What is the best way to remove pigmentation?

Combined treatment using both lasers and topicals is the best way to remove pigmentation. Other methods to prevent further pigmentation include managing hormonal imbalances, staying out of the sun, and wearing sunscreen.

Which is the best pigmentation cream?

We recommend a combination of our Retin-A and Vitamin C serums uniquely formulated by our on-site medical practitioner, Doctor Soleiman. We have many different modalities for reducing pigmentation. We use an optimal blend of medical-grade ingredients such as kojic acid, Retin-A, vitamin c, fluoric acid, and sometimes hydroquinone to reduce the appearance of pigmentation.

How can I permanently remove pigmentation from my face?

There is no permanent solution for pigmentation reduction. Pigment cells will continue to produce pigment as we age in response to hormones and sun exposure or trauma. However,  topical medical-grade creams, oral prescriptions, laser treatments, or other cosmetic procedures can reduce or remove pigmentation.

Which serum is best for pigmentation?

A blend of Vitamin C serum, Retinol, Retin-A, and HQRA Creams are excellent options for reducing the appearance of pigmentation. Contact an experienced provider near you for medical-grade prescription-strength custom formulas that provide highly effective and powerful results.
