Is Juvederm Ultra XC Reversible?

Most popular lip fillers like Juvederm Ultra XC are made of hyaluronic acids. These molecules are completely and instantly reversible by injecting a reversal agent called hyaluronidase (name brands Hylenex and Vitrase).

Hyaluronic acid filler molecules are held together by cross-linking. Some fillers have more molecules which makes them last longer, and others have fewer. Fewer molecules in the filler result in faster dissolving.  Regardless of the amount of crosslinking, hyaluronidase can be injected to break them down instantly for the body to discard them.

Some fillers only need one session of reversal agent, while other products may need two or three sessions to dissolve completely. If you have experienced migration of your fillers or are unhappy with your filler results and are looking for help, The Cosmetic Injectables Center might the the perfect choice for you. Our experienced providers at Cosmetic Injectables Center in Sherman Oaks, California are experts at the removal and reshaping of misplaced fillers.

    • After you schedule a consultation, you will discuss your cosmetic goals with one of our skilled and experienced healthcare providers;
    • Inform your healthcare practitioner if you are taking any medications that might cause bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, or blood thinners. This, like any other injection, may cause bruising or bleeding at the injection site;
    • Inform your healthcare provider if you have plans of vaccination or laser therapy, chemical peeling, or any other procedure within a two-week window of your JUVEDERM Ultra XC treatment. There is a chance of an inflammatory response;
    • Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or nursing. The safety of using it during pregnancy, nursing, or in people under the age of 18 has not been researched;
    • Tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of pigmentation disorders. The safety of JUVEDERM Ultra XC in patients with a history of pigmentation disorders has not been studied. Use of the filler can result in changes in pigmentation;
    • Avoid drugs, supplements, or meals that can thin the blood in the days preceding your JUVEDERM Ultra XC appointment. Aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcohol are examples of such substances. These and the like may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding during the treatment;
    • Avoid excessive physical activity, such as rigorous exercises, on the day of your treatment and the following day. Exercising can increase blood flow, which might result in increased bruising and swelling;
    • Drink lots of water to keep your skin moisturized, which can help you get greater results and faster recovery;
    • Limit your sun exposure and apply high-SPF sunscreen prior to and after you heal from your procedure;
    • Avoid any activities that may result in a cold sore outbreak such as sunbathing, sleep deprivation, or lip biting;
    Filler Injecting To Female Patient
    • The healthcare provider may gently massage the treatment region to ensure that the product is disseminated evenly and to reduce risk of lumps/bumps;

    During the Procedure

    The procedure doesn’t take more than 10-20 minutes. It consists of a few steps including:

    • The treatment area will be cleansed before being disinfected with alcohol or another antiseptic;
    • The healthcare practitioner may mark your face with a pen to indicate the injection sites if necessary
    • Topical and/or injection of numbing medication will be offered for your comfort;
    • The healthcare practitioner will wait a few seconds after the initial injection to enable the lidocaine for the filler to take effect before proceeding with the rest of the therapy;
    • JUVEDERM Ultra XC will be injected into the treatment region in modest doses until the desired cosmetic effect is reached;

    Aftercare & Recovery

    • Avoid intense exercise and prolonged sun or heat exposure for the first 24 hours after therapy. Any of these may result in redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site;
    • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for a few days following the treatment;
    • Avoid alcohol consumption at least 24 hours following the procedure. It can cause dehydration and increase bruising;
    • Make any suggested follow-up appointments with our providers to check your progress and determine whether you require further treatment;
    • If swelling occurs, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area;
    • About applying makeup post-treatment, you should wait for all puncture sites to be closed to reduce risk of infections.

    Like with any other treatment, it is critical to be informed of any potential side effects and risks that come with it. Some of the side effects that you might experience include:

    • Swelling: Swelling is frequent with any filler injection, especially in the lips. However, JUVEDERM Ultra XC injections are generally less cause for severe swelling than some other fillers.
    • Pain/Discomfort: As with any filler injections, patients may experience slight pain around the injection sites on the first day or two following JUVEDERM Ultra XC treatment.
    • Lumps/Bumps, Firmness, and Discoloration: Uneven areas of the dermal filler settling in the skin can appear post-treatment, which usually resolves after 14 days.
    • Tenderness: Tenderness and redness can also appear near the injection site.

    Although the majority of side effects or negative outcomes resolve after two weeks, some may last longer than 30 days. Your doctor may choose to treat them with antibiotics, steroids, or Hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks and dissolves Hyaluronic Acid).

    Juvederm Ultra XC Reviews

    ‘‘My podiatrist told me the fat pads on my feet were gone and that’s why my feet hurt. I had heard that the pads could be injected with Juvederm. My podiatrist doesn’t perform that service. A friend referred me to Dr. Soleiman and she performed the injections on the bottoms of my feet. I am able to walk and hike again. She is kind and caring. I highly recommend her.’’

    Juvederm Ultra XC FAQs

    What is JUVEDERM Ultra?

    JUVEDERM Ultra XC is an advanced dermal filler with smooth consistency. It works well to replenish volume and moisture for skin elasticity and support. The filler is good for lip enhancement and that of surrounding structures.

    How long does JUVEDERM Ultra really last?

    JUVEDERM Ultra XC, and Ultra Plus XC as dermal fillers last from 6 to 12 months. The duration of the results depends on the metabolism of the individual, their diet, exercise level, sun exposure, and most importantly, the amount of daily facial expressions.

    Is JUVEDERM Ultra a good filler?

    JUVEDERM Ultra XC is a well-known hyaluronic acid filler that may be used to enhance lips, restore lost face volume, and smooth out deeper wrinkles. Many believe it to be a wise choice for getting results that seem natural and work well.

    Is there a difference between Juvederm and JUVEDERM Ultra?

    It’s relevant that Juvederm and JUVEDERM Ultra XC usually refer to the same product. However, to be symantically correct, Juvederm Ultra XC is only one of the fillers in the Juvederm family of fillers which also includes Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, Juvederm Voluma XC, and Juvederm Volux XC. Each of them has a unique composition and function for treating face volume enhancement and fine lines.

    What are the side effects of Juvederm?

    Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, soreness, and itching at the injection site are typical potential side effects of Juvederm dermal fillers, such as Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, and Voluma XC. Rarely, more severe side effects like infections or allergic responses might appear.

    How long does Juvederm take to heal?

    Usually, initial swelling and bruising lasts a few days to one week. However, it can take up to two weeks to heal and for the full results to be visible.

    Can you kiss after Juvederm filler?

    In most cases, no. To minimize swelling, bruising, or infection after Juvederm injections, your healthcare practitioner will advise you to avoid intense activity, intense movement of the area of filler placement, or bacterial exposure for the first 24 to 48 hours.

    How painful is Juvederm?

    As a filler, a Juvederm injection can produce minor pain, which is commonly characterized as a pinching or stinging feeling. However, the patients find the discomfort often well-tolerated due to the lidocaine (numbing) agent inside the filler. Lip treatments tend to be more tender than other areas of the face, hence why additional numbing agents are usually used.

    Does Restylane Kysse last longer than Juvederm Ultra?

    Both, Restylane Kysse and Juvederm Ultra are the longest-lasting fillers. However, the results can remain longer depending on the person’s metabolism, amount of lip movement, smoking tendencies, sun exposure, diet, injection technique, filler quantity (both Kysse and Juvederm), lifestyle, and natural aging. Generally, they last from 6-12 months.
