- Inform your healthcare practitioner if you are taking any medications that might cause bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, or blood thinners. This, like any other injection, may cause bruising or bleeding at the injection site;
- Inform your healthcare provider if you have plans of vaccination or laser therapy, chemical peeling, or any other procedure within a two-week window of your JUVEDERM Ultra XC treatment. There is a chance of an inflammatory response;
- Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or nursing. The safety of using it during pregnancy, nursing, or in people under the age of 18 has not been researched;
- Tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of pigmentation disorders. The safety of JUVEDERM Ultra XC in patients with a history of pigmentation disorders has not been studied. Use of the filler can result in changes in pigmentation;

- Avoid excessive physical activity, such as rigorous exercises, on the day of your treatment and the following day. Exercising can increase blood flow, which might result in increased bruising and swelling;
- Drink lots of water to keep your skin moisturized, which can help you get greater results and faster recovery;
- Limit your sun exposure and apply high-SPF sunscreen prior to and after you heal from your procedure;
- Avoid any activities that may result in a cold sore outbreak such as sunbathing, sleep deprivation, or lip biting;

During the Procedure
The procedure doesn’t take more than 10-20 minutes. It consists of a few steps including:
- The treatment area will be cleansed before being disinfected with alcohol or another antiseptic;
- The healthcare practitioner may mark your face with a pen to indicate the injection sites if necessary
- Topical and/or injection of numbing medication will be offered for your comfort;
- The healthcare practitioner will wait a few seconds after the initial injection to enable the lidocaine for the filler to take effect before proceeding with the rest of the therapy;
- JUVEDERM Ultra XC will be injected into the treatment region in modest doses until the desired cosmetic effect is reached;
Aftercare & Recovery
- Avoid intense exercise and prolonged sun or heat exposure for the first 24 hours after therapy. Any of these may result in redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site;
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for a few days following the treatment;
- Avoid alcohol consumption at least 24 hours following the procedure. It can cause dehydration and increase bruising;
