What is Juvederm Volbella XC?
JUVEDERM Volbella is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler injected beneath the skin’s surface to enhance lip volume, smooth lines and wrinkles around the mouth and correction of under eye hollows for up to 1 year.
Juvederm Volbella XC Benefits
Juvederm Volbella is one of the Juvederm family of fillers customized with a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid for specific areas of the face with thin skin or superficial enhancements. Juvederm Volbella typically is used for lip augmentation, correction of fine lip lines around the mouth and volume loss around the eyes that makes one look tired.
Even though the filler has only 15 mg/ml of hyaluronic acid, the concentration doesn’t stop it from being one of the best fillers for lip hydration, reduction of lip lines, undereye enhancement, and long-lasting results.

Is Juvederm Volbella Reversible?
Most popular lip fillers like Juvederm Volbella are made of hyaluronic acids. These molecules are completely and instantly reversible by injecting a reversal agent called hyaluronidase (name brands Hylenex and Vitrase).
Hyaluronic acid filler molecules are held together by cross-linking. Some fillers have more molecules which makes them last longer. and others have fewer, which makes them dissolve faster. Regardless of the amount of crosslinking, hyaluronidase can be injected to break them down instantly for the body to discard them.
Some fillers only need one session of reversal agent, while other products may need two or three sessions to dissolve completely. If you have experienced migration of your fillers or are unhappy with your filler results and are looking for help, you are in the right place.
Our experienced providers at Cosmetic Injectables Center in Sherman Oaks, California are experts at the removal and reshaping of misplaced fillers.
How does Juvederm Volbella XC work?
Juvederm Volbella is a thin filler that adds subtle volume through the injection of hyaluronic acid (using the VYCROSS® filler technology).
Below you will find a step-by-step guide to prepare you for the treatment.
- The healthcare practitioner will examine and clean the targeted area before applying the injection.
- Topical anesthesia may be applied in some cases.
- Juvederm Volbella filler will be injected into the desired area and the area might be massaged. This is done so the injector is sure that the filler is evenly distributed into the desired area.
Before & Preparation
- After you schedule a consultation, you will discuss your cosmetic goals with one of our skilled and experienced healthcare providers to collaborate on your aesthetic goals.
- Inform your healthcare provider if you have plans of vaccination or laser therapy, chemical peeling, or any other procedure within a two-week window of your JUVEDERM Ultra XC treatment. There is a chance of an inflammatory response.
- Filler cannot be used on you while you are pregnant.
- Tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of pigmentation issues. The safety of JUVEDERM Ultra XC in patients with a history of pigmentation disorders has not been studied. Use of the filler can result in changes in pigmentation causing hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
- Avoid drugs, supplements, or meals that can thin the blood in the days preceding your JUVEDERM Volbella appointment. Aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcohol are examples of such substances. These and the like may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding during the treatment.
During the Procedure
- Volume Enhancement: Once injected, the hyaluronic acid in Volbella attracts and binds to water molecules, effectively increasing the volume and fullness of the lips. This provides immediate plumping and enhancement.
- Wrinkle Reduction: In addition to adding volume, Volbella helps smooth out fine lines and wrinkles around the lips by filling in the creases. This can soften the appearance of perioral lines, also known as smoker’s lines or lipstick lines.
- Stimulation of Collagen Production: Hyaluronic acid has been shown to stimulate collagen production in the skin over time. Collagen is a protein that provides structural support and elasticity to the skin, helping to improve its overall texture and quality.
Aftercare & Recovery
- Gradual Breakdown: Over time, the hyaluronic acid in Volbella is gradually metabolized by the body. As the filler breaks down, the results gradually diminish, typically lasting up to 12 months. Some individuals may require maintenance treatments to sustain their desired results.
- Please let us know if you have any important events upcoming, like a wedding or vacation.
- Avoid excessive physical activity, such as rigorous exercises, on the day of your treatment and for 24 hours after. Exercising can increase blood flow, which might result in increased bruising and swelling.
- Drink lots of water to keep your skin moisturized, which can help you get greater results and faster recovery.
- Limit your sun exposure and apply high-SPF sunscreen prior to and after you heal from your procedure.
- Please let us know if you have a history of cold sores.
