    What Is Juvederm?

Juvederm is one of the most famous collections of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers designed by Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie Company. The fillers are made from a modified form of HA, a substance naturally found in the body.

Juvederm fillers help restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, add moisture, and reduce signs of aging. You can choose between six unique fillers, each formulated for specific areas like the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, smile lines, under-eyes, and temples. These smooth, crystal-clear gel fillers are injected by experienced practitioners using a needle or cannula, providing long-lasting results with minimal downtime.

The fillers are FDA-approved, and they have been studied for safety and effectiveness.

Juvederm Fillers at Cosmetic Injectables Center

At Cosmetic Injectables Center, you will be able to choose from all of them since our med spa works with all of the Juvederm fillers. XC in the names stands for Extra Comfort due to the numbing agent that’s pre-mixed into the formula. Depending on your needs, you can choose from the following options:

    • Juvederm Ultra XC: Juvederm Ultra XC is a crystal clear, hyaluronic acid dermal filler injected beneath the skin’s surface to enhance lip volume and smooth lines and wrinkles around the mouth. It temporarily adds the desired fullness and shape for lip enhancement, lasting about 6-9 months or more.  It is reversible with the injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Due to its water affinity, it creates luscious-looking results.
    • Juvederm Ultra Plus XC: Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is a Hyaluronic acid-based filler that received its FDA approval for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds. Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is a bit firmer than Juvederm Ultra and lasts a bit longer (9-12 months or more).  Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is also reversible with the injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase.  It is also water-loving in that it attracts water to create a softer, more moisturized look.
    • Juvederm Voluma XC: Juvederm Voluma is the longest-lasting FDA-approved reversible filler in the United States. It serves as a firm, foundational filler that helps structurally shape the cheeks. It has FDA approval in areas of the chin, cheeks, and filling of the temples, but can be used off-label anywhere for its desired outcome.  It is less water absorbing than Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus XC, which makes it perfect for its firmer areas of indication.
    • Juvederm Vollure XC: Juvederm Vollure is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler injected beneath the skin’s surface to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles and folds.  It diffuses, blends, and integrates into the area of injection. Hence its great in areas of high movement such as smile lines, so that the start/end of filler position isn’t noticeable during movements.

      • Juvederm Volbella XC: Juvederm Volbella is an injectable gel for the subtle enhancement of lips, the correction of perioral lip lines, and injection into the under-eye hollows to improve the appearance of under-eye hollows. It is one of the thinnest fillers on the market that diffuses and integrates into the tissue with minimal volumization.  Hence, it can be used in flat areas such as lip lines above the lips where volume isn’t desired or undereyes where it reduces bumps and nodules.
      • Juvederm Volux XC: Volux is the first and only dermal filler with FDA approval to enhance jawline definition and treat volume loss in the jawline and lower chin region. This brand-new filler is excellent for its bone-like appearance and for creating a well-defined jawline and a perfectly rounded and narrow chin.
      • SkinVive by Juvederm: Not officially a filler, as it does not volumize, SkinVive is in the Juvederm portfolio of hyaluronic acids for enhancing moisture underneath the skin, helping to create a natural glow to the appearance of the skin.  It opens the aquaphore channels, which carry moisture from deeper levels to the surface of the epidermis.

      Are Juvederm Fillers Reversible?

Most popular fillers like Juvederm fillers are made of hyaluronic acids. These molecules are  instantly reversible by injecting a reversal agent called hyaluronidase (name brands Hylenex and Vitrase).

Hyaluronic acid filler molecules are held together by cross-linking. Some fillers have more cross-linking, which makes them last longer, and others have fewer, which makes them dissolve faster. Regardless of the amount of crosslinking, hyaluronidase can be injected to break them down instantly for the body to discard them.

Some fillers only need one session of a reversal agent, while other products may need two or three sessions to dissolve completely. If you have experienced the migration of your fillers or are unhappy with your filler results and are looking for help, you are in the right place.

      What is Restylane filler?

Restylane is a family of products with many different syringes that have different characteristics. Restylane Kyss is another popular filler that is great for the lips.

What areas are treated with Restylane?

One of the most common ones is Restylane-L AKA Restylane Eyelight which is known for its benefits under the eyes because of its low water uptake. Restylane Kyss is another popular filler that is great for the lips.

How long do Restylane fillers last?

With the exception of Restylane L/Ryelight that have been shown to last about 18 months, all of the other fillers in the Restylane family of products have been FDA-approved to last up to one year or less. However, depending on your metabolism and enzyme levels, the product can last a shorter or longer period of time.

Does insurance cover restylane fillers cost?

No, it doesn’t. Most insurance companies do not cover cosmetic procedures. However, we offer a variety of payment options such as Patient Fi Care Credit for your convenience.

What is the difference between Restylane fillers?

Different syringes are used for different areas. For example, Restylane Kyss is great for lips, while Restylane Eyelight is known for its benefits under the eyes. Restylane Refyne, on the other hand, is optimal for marionette lines and nasolabial folds.

How much do Restylane fillers cost?

Depending on which product in the family of Restylane fillers, the price per syringe can range between $750 to $1,000.

      Why is Restylane so expensive?

Restylane fillers can be expensive if more syringes are used. This depends on the patient’s desires and the treated area.

Who is a good candidate for Restylane?

A good candidate for Restylane is someone who seeks smoother, symmetrical, and natural-looking expressions without invasive procedures or traditional fillers that stiffen the face.

What are the side effects of Restylane?

Common side effects of Restylane Fillers include swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site. These side effects are usually temporary and resolve independently within a few days.

      What is the longest-lasting Restylane?

All Restylanes have been FDA approved to last about one year. However, depending on the area injected the longevity changes. For example, in the areas where there is high Vasculature or a lot of movement, the fillers can dissipate faster. Voluma from the Juvéderm family however is firm and uses a different cross-linking process that resists degradation a bit more than other fillers In the market, and has been FDA approved to last about two years.

Which is better, Juvederm or Restylane?

Restylane and Juvederm are very similar, with products best suited for specific areas of the face and body. Both are non-invasive fillers containing hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. Both have products that contain lidocaine which reduces pain during injections.

      Does Restylane build collagen?

While the Restylane gel does not build collagen, injection of Restylane involves needle pokes, which inevitably can cause some stimulation for collagen production.

What is the recovery time for Restylane?

As with all other injectables, it takes about 14 days for Restylane to settle and for almost all bruising and swelling to subside.

Which lasts longer, Restylane or Juvederm?

Restylane is a family of many fillers, and Juvederm also has a variety of fillers in its umbrella.  Based on FDA-approved studies, Voluma and Vollure have long longevity of 2 years and 18 months respectively, while most other fillers in both Juvederm and Restylane families last only up to one year.

What's better for under eyes, Juvederm or Restylane?

In the Juvederm family of products, Juvederm Volbella is FDA approved for under the eyes.  In the Restylane family of products, Restylane Eyelite is FDA-approved for use under the eyes.  For most injectors, Restylane Eyelite is the more popular filler for under-eye treatments due to its low water affinity and reduced tyndal effect (blue tint to the skin after injection).  It is also more likely to stay in position even through repeated facial animation.

Which is better, Restylane or Voluma?

Both Restylane and Voluma are favorite fillers of ours, each for different goals.  Restylane-L and eyelite are fantastic for treatment of undereye hollows, while Juvederm Voluma is excellent for firm contouring of cheeks, chin, and filling of the temples.

Which is better Sculptra or Restylane?

Sculptra and Restylane are both superb fillers for different goals.  When desiring a collagen building response to help with texture or if wanting a smooth enhancement of the buttock, Sculptra will be a better choice.  If however undereye treatment is desired, Sculptra is contraindicated in that region, and Restylane-L and Restylane Eyelite are known to be the gold standard.

Which is better Belotero or Restylane?

Based on our patient feedback, the Restylane family of fillers tends to last longer than Belotero.  So if you are looking for a short-acting, thin consistency filler, Belotero would be a better choice, as it lasts about 3-6 months.  However, if you are looking for a longer lasting filler, Restylane line of products have all been FDA approved for about 1 to 1 ½ years of longevity.

      Is Restylane better than Botox?

Restylane fillers work with a different mechanism of action. Fillers fill areas with a hyaluronic acid gel to add volume, while Botox relaxes muscles to reduce movement of a certain muscle/area, resulting in decreased movement and bending of the skin. Fillers usually can last 1-2 years while Botox (and other neuromodulators) last about 3-4 months.

      How painful are Restylane injections?

Restylane injections are minimally painful due to the lidocaine (a numbing agent) that’s pre-mixed into the product.  In addition to that, we offer our patients topical numbing, zimmer cryo, and regional blocks to ensure patient comfort during the procedure.

How long does swelling last after fillers Restylane?

Temporary lumps and bumps from swelling usually resolve after about 14 days without intervention. However, if Restylane was injected incorrectly, that would cause a more long-term persistence of lumps and bumps. While this can be tweaked and corrected with an injection of a reversal agent, the important focus should be to go to an experienced injector to reduce these risks.
