Botox for Twitching and Spasms is a medical neuromodulator plan used to calm involuntary muscle movement in the eyelids or face. Our Providers treat Patients at our Medical Spa in Sherman Oaks when twitching or spasms interfere with comfort, vision, or daily activity. The visit is planned as medical Botox, not as a cosmetic wrinkle treatment.
The goal of using Botox for twitching and spasms is to target the muscles that are firing, not wrinkle lines. Mild, short-lived eyelid or other muscle twitching often settle on their own. Persistent twitching and spasms however may benefit from relaxation of those muscles to expedite cessation. The facial movements are first evaluated during the consultation visit, where a Provider will map out the specific areas for treatment. Patients can choose to have the recommended injections at time of first visit or at a future appointment time.

What is Botox for Twitching and Spasms?
Botox for Twitching and Spasms at our Medical Spa is a neuromodulator injection plan for involuntary eyelid, facial, or body muscle movement. This treatment is not to be confused with a typical Botox appointment meant to reduce wrinkles. The goal of this specific modality is to reduce the muscle contractions that cause twitching or spasms so the face can rest more naturally.
Patients often come in with one of two patterns. One is short eyelid twitching associated with fatigue, stress, caffeine, or eye irritation, which may pass without treatment. Second, persistent twitching, forceful blinking, or spasms that pull one side of the face. These patterns may include blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, or other involuntary facial movement. Our licensed Providers assess the movement pattern and determine whether treatment, additional medical evaluation, or referral to a neurologist, ophthalmologist, or another specialist is appropriate before recommending Botox.
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is used to reduce the nerve signal that tells a muscle to contract. For twitching and spasms, our Providers map the muscles that are overactive, then place small amounts of product in those sites. Placement is based on how the eyelid, face or body muscle is moving.
BOTOX has FDA labeling for blepharospasm associated with dystonia, including benign essential blepharospasm or VII nerve disorders, in Patients 12 years and older. This does not mean every eyelid twitch, facial spasm, or eye-alignment condition uses the same treatment plan.
During a consultation, our Providers will review your medical history, the pattern of movement, and your goals for treatment. A Good Faith Exam is completed before treatment to ensure candidacy. Not every twitch needs an injection. If Botox is appropriate for your case, the plan will be confirmed and thoroughly discussed before the first unit is placed.

This service is priced per unit rather than per treatment, because the number of units required is different for every patient. Final cost depends on the number of units used, the product selected, and the Patient’s personalized plan, which our Providers confirm at consultation before treatment begins.
What affects your cost
- Treatment area. Eyelid muscles, muscles around the eye, and muscles on one side of the face do not use the same unit count.
- Number of sites treated. Treating more spasm sites uses more units than treating a smaller pattern.
- Strength of the spasm. Stronger or more frequent movement may need more units. Product selected. Your Provider will discuss which neuromodulator suits your plan.

How Botox for Twitching and Spasms Works
Botox for Twitching and Spasms at our Medical Spa in Sherman Oaks has three phases: preparation, the in-office procedure, and aftercare. Our Providers, in physician-led care, review the movement pattern at consultation, then place Botox in the muscles that are firing. Dr. Soleiman supervises this process for patients from Encino, Studio City, and Tarzana.
Before & Preparation
Discuss when the twitching or spasms started, which side is involved, and what makes them worse or better. During consultation, your Provider will also:
- Review your medical history with you
- Discuss whether you are a good candidate for Botox for Twitching and Spasms
- Tell you what to expect during and after your procedure
A Good Faith Exam and consultation are completed before treatment.
Instructions to follow before treatment:
- Tell the provider when the twitching began, how often it occurs, what makes it better or worse, and whether it affects one or both sides.
- Bring information about prior diagnoses, imaging, neurologic or eye examinations, facial nerve injury, Bell’s palsy, surgery, trauma, or earlier botulinum toxin treatment.
- Provide a complete list of prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and supplements.
- Tell the Provider about bleeding problems, muscle or nerve conditions, swallowing or breathing problems, facial weakness, drooping eyelids, or previous reactions to botulinum toxin products.
- Discuss pregnancy, plans for pregnancy, or nursing before treatment. Our Medical Spa does not treat Patients who are actively pregnant. Avoid treatment during breastfeeding, or pump and discard breast milk for 24 hours after treatment.
- Report any infection, irritation, active rash, or wound near a proposed injection site.
- Ask before stopping blood-thinning medicines or supplements. Never stop prescribed medication without guidance from the prescribing clinician.
- Vaccines may be scheduled before or after treatment. Avoid facials and other skin-puncture procedures for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after treatment. Avoid lying flat for 4 hours after treatment. Avoid dental work for 4 hours after treatment for the same reason.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, and saunas for 4 hours after treatment. Avoid sweating for 4 hours after treatment.
During the Procedure
- You review our in-office consent forms and fill out required medical history.
- Before treatment, our Medical Director will perform a Good Faith Exam to determine medical candidacy
- Your Provider watches how the eyelid or face moves, then marks the muscles involved. The exact amount of units needed will be confirmed before treatment begins.
- Treatment areas are cleaned, then Botox is placed with a fine needle in the mapped muscles.
- Visit length is typically 30 mins
- Comfort options during the visit may include topical numbing, ice packs, handheld fans, a Zimmer cooling machine, music, and a TV in the room. Let our staff know if you have a history of fainting or dizziness so we can properly accommodate you.
Aftercare & Recovery
Follow the aftercare instructions given for this visit.
- Do not rub, press, or massage treated areas for 24 hours. Try to contract the treated muscle for 4-6 hrs after treatment.
- Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, heat, and sweating for 4 hours after treatment.
- Makeup may be applied right after treatment if the skin is not sensitive.
- You may resume your normal skincare routine immediately after Botox.
- Postpone other skin-puncture procedures like microneedling and Morpheus8 for 2 weeks after treatment.
- Vaccines may be scheduled after treatment.
- Dental procedures are fine as long as you do not lie down within 4 hours after Botox.
- Contact the practice if twitching worsens, the treated area becomes unusually weak, or side effects concern you.
- Seek urgent medical care for trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing, or for widespread muscle weakness.

Botox for Twitching and Spasms Treatment Areas
This treatment plan places Botox specifically in the muscles that twitch or spasm, most often around the eyelids and, when one side of the face is involved, along that side. Our Providers have also treated Patients with involuntary and persistent twitching in the feet. Not every patient’s treatment plan includes an injection point on every muscle site.
Eyelids and muscles around the eyes: Botox may be used for diagnosed blepharospasm or selected facial spasm patterns that involve repeated eyelid closure. Placement around the eye requires careful dosing to reduce spasms while protecting blinking and eyelid function.
Cheek, mouth, and chin: May be treated when hemifacial spasm or facial nerve synkinesis affects muscles on one side of the face, including the cheek, corner of the mouth, or chin. Treatment planning follows the observed movement rather than a cosmetic injection map. These Patients do not generally follow the same treatment plan as a Patient seeking less movement in forehead lines, crow’s feet, or frown lines.
Treatment is limited to the muscles involved in the Patient’s assessed movement pattern. Not every patient is treated with Botox on every site, and additional medical evaluation may be needed before an injection plan is approved.
Am I a Good Candidate for Botox for Twitching and Spasms?
Patients at our Medical Spa who consider this plan often have persistent, disruptive involuntary muscle contractions and have received an appropriate medical evaluation. Occasional eyelid twitching associated with fatigue, caffeine, stress, eye irritation, or another temporary cause may not require Botox. New, worsening, one-sided, or unexplained symptoms should be evaluated before a treatment decision is made.
The ideal candidate:
- Has a confirmed diagnosis or a documented medical assessment explaining the movement pattern
- Has twitching or spasms localized to muscles that may be treated with targeted injections
- Understands that Botox reduces muscle activity temporarily and does not cure every underlying cause
- Can attend follow-up visits so the response and facial function can be assessed. Try to stay in town for at least 2 weeks after treatment to allow for tweaking opportunities
- Has realistic goals focused on symptom control and improved function
- Has no infection or active opening skin in the proposed injection area
- Has disclosed medicines, supplements, prior botulinum toxin treatment, and relevant medical conditions
- Meets the practice’s age and diagnosis requirements. A referral is not required, as long as Dr. Soleiman clears the Patient during the Good Faith Exam.
- Is not pregnant or breastfeeding (or consider pump and dump for 24 hours after treatment)
Patients with swallowing or breathing problems, certain neuromuscular conditions, significant facial weakness, pregnancy or nursing considerations, or previous reactions to botulinum toxin require individual medical review. Dr. Soleiman assesses candidacy.

The product class may be the same for both treatments, but the plan is not. These patients do not follow the same cosmetic Botox map used for forehead lines, crow’s feet, or frown lines. Unit amount, injection sites, and the reason for treatment may differ. A patient can request both aesthetic and medical use for Botox in the same visit but the exact unit and injection point map may vary and will be confirmed by your Provider at consultation.

Botox for Twitching and Spasms Side Effects & Risks
Botox is a prescription medical treatment, and all injections carry potential risks. Possible side effects vary on the dosage, placement, treatment area, and patient’s health. Our Providers will assess each patient case-by-case to ensure this treatment is right for you.
- Pain, tenderness, redness, swelling, or bruising at an injection site
- Headache or temporary discomfort
- Eye irritation, dry eye, or excessive tearing when treatment is near the eyes
- Temporary eyelid or eyebrow drooping
- Temporary facial weakness, asymmetry, or unwanted change in expression
- Difficulty fully closing an eye when muscles around the eyelid are treated
- An effect on nearby muscles outside the intended treatment area
- Allergic reaction
- Worsening of swallowing or breathing problems in susceptible Patients
BOTOX carries a boxed warning that toxin effects may spread away from the injection area. Symptoms can include generalized muscle weakness, double vision, drooping eyelids, difficulty speaking, difficulty swallowing, or breathing problems, and they may occur hours to weeks after treatment.
