What is Kybella?

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) distributed by Allergan, the company that makes Botox and Juvederm, is a prescription medicine injected in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” Kybella may also be used to improve the appearance of bra fat found on the side of the underarm.

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

How Does It Work?

Kybella is injected into the fat beneath your chin, where it causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. The procedure takes about 10 minutes to perform and the results are visible by 6 weeks after. A total of three treatments is usually necessary.
