Say Goodbye To Chin Fat

by | Sep 10, 2019 | Procedures

It’s not uncommon to have a little unwanted “wiggle” under your chin. Chin fat is often associated with obesity or weight gain, but the truth is that you don’t have to be overweight to have a little extra in the chin area. Both genetics and aging can play a role in excess chin fat as well—but if you’re worried about your looks, you’re in luck. Did you know a few sessions of injections can literally melt chin fat away permanently? Skip the turtleneck and check out the info below.

The Facts About Chin Fat

The dreaded “double chin” consists of stubborn fat accumulation beneath the chin. Both men and women, even those who are fit and in good health, can be affected by a double chin. Since problem areas like the under-chin are difficult to treat through diet and exercise, many people believe that they simply have to live with a poorly defined and chubby facial appearance—but that’s not the case.

Get Rid of Chin Fat for Good

In the past, surgical liposuction was the only treatment to ensure fat removal from beneath the

chin. Fortunately, this is no longer true! For those who want a non-invasive solution to chin fat, a revolutionary injectable treatment called KYBELLA® has been approved by the FDA to treat this stubborn submental fat. Kybella® (deoxycholic acid) is distributed by Allergan, the company that makes Botox and Juvederm. This prescription medicine can be injected in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

Kybella® is injected into the fat beneath your chin, where it destroys fat cells permanently. Once destroyed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. The procedure takes only about 10 minutes to perform, and the results are visible within around 6 weeks of the treatment. A total of three sessions, spaced about a month between each, is usually necessary for best results. However, we’ll consider your specific situation and personal health goals to tailor a treatment plan just for you.

The Side Effects

After your treatment, you may see some initial swelling lasting for a week or two, but a lot is reduced within the first three days following the procedure—which means a treatment before the weekend leaves most patients in great shape to return to work on Monday. The other common side effects of Kybella include bruising, pain, redness, numbness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area, all of which disappear over time. Not a bad price to pay to make the fat permanently disappear!

If a double chin has you feeling self-conscious or worried, you don’t have to just “bear with it.” A few easy Kybella treatments are all that’s needed to get rid of that excess fat and bring back your confidence. Reach out to our medical team for more information.
