Your Guide to Jawline Fillers

by | Sep 3, 2020 | Injectables

Dermal fillers are designed to smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles, add volume and structure to the skin to give patients a more youthful, healthy appearance. One area in particular that many of our patients are looking to improve is the jawline. Jawline Fillers are the perfect solution for those who want to enhance the look of their profile.

These types of fillers can create a stronger jawline, help improve saggy skin and make the jawline appear slimmer. In our high-tech world, everyone wants to improve their selfie look, and the jawline happens to be one of the most prominent areas to start with.

What Is a Dermal Filler Injection?

The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery defines dermal fillers as gel-like materials that are inserted under the skin to help smooth and soften lines and creases, enhance the contours of the face, and repair lost volume.

The FDA has approved the use of three categories of injectable fillers in the United States that are used at Cosmetic Injectables. They are:

  • Poly-L-lactic acid – Fillers made from this, such as Sculptra, help to stimulate the body to produce collagen. Results appear over a period of six weeks with multiple treatments often recommended. The effects of this filler are not instantly reversible.
  • Hyaluronic Acids – These are naturally-occurring substances in your body. Fillers created using HA, such as Juvaderm Voluma and Restylane Lyft, offer immediate results that can be instantly reversed. They also offer a large range of longevity, with the thinnest products lasting about three months to the thickest products that can last up to two years.
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite – Fillers made from this, such as Radiesse, are often thick and offer a combination of both instant results and collagen-stimulating effects. They are not instantly reversible.

Most fillers made of hyaluronic acids are safer because they are instantly reversible. We’ve found they also deliver desired results.

Creating a Stronger Jawline

Weak jaw definition is much like an underdeveloped chin – it can create a loss of definition and separation between the face and neck. This can be instantly and easily remedied with injectable fillers for both men and women with a treatment tailored to each patient’s desired outcome.

There are a variety of injectable fillers that can be used for contouring a stronger jawline. One of the most effective is Juvederm Voluma XC. It’s different from other hyaluronic acid fillers because it uses a specialized Vycross cross-linking technology to make the lift more prominent. It also lasts up to two years where other fillers only last 6 to 12 months.

Sculptra and Restylane have also been used in jawline contouring. A consultation at Cosmetic Injectables can help you to understand which filler would be the most effective to help you achieve your jaw-defining goals.

Dealing with Jowls

As you get older, your skin loses its natural ability to create elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid, compounded by a loss of fat in the face. As the volume in your face decreases, the skin tends to droop downward. This loss of volume leads directly to the development of jowls: the sagging skin below your jawline and chin.

Re-volumizing the face with injectable fillers is a specialty of the master injectors at Cosmetic Injectables. They work with you to determine what combination of techniques (such as fillers, microneedling, and Botox/muscle relaxants, NovaThreads) and products can re-lift the skin in the area to address the formation of jowls.

To help your face retain volume and slow the formation of jowls, you may want to consider a few of these products. These products can be used along with injectable dermal fillers to help add long-term firmness and create a better texture for the skin:

Advanced RETINOL Serum 2%

Retinol is key to keeping your skin youthful looking and firm. It helps to increase the natural production of collagen, brighten the skin, and promote cell turnover.

Defenage 8-in-1 BioSerum Multi-age Corrector

This serum works to promote a healthy, more youthful complexion and restore the skin’s vitality. Its ingredients promote healthy circulation, as well as smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, it firms the skin to improve the contours of the face.

Slimming the Jawline

Some are born with an underdeveloped jawline while others find that their jaw is overdeveloped. Many women find this bothersome since they feel it masculinizes their female face, but it can also lead to medical problems such as jaw pain, TMJ, and grinding the teeth at night, which can lead to dental issues.

At Cosmetic Injectables, we use Botox to enhance appearance as it helps to reduce painful conditions in the jaw. Botox helps to relax the masseter muscles in the jaw, reducing their prominence for a slimmer jawline. Your face will appear slenderer and more youthful by emphasizing the cheekbones. We can also use injectable fillers to help slim the face at the jawline. While it may seem as if it’s an oxymoron to add volume, it’s a really successful way to help slim the jaw. By strategically injecting fillers to help contour the face, the jawline can appear slimmer.

Jawline Filler FAQ

Who is a Good Candidate for Jawline Fillers?

Dermal fillers can address a variety of concerns, especially in the jawline area. Contouring with dermal fillers is a great option for many patients.

In general, healthy people – both men and women – who want to improve their jawlines are perfect candidates for procedures that involve dermal fillers. This includes those with underdeveloped jawlines, those with sagging skin who do not wish to pursue surgical correction, those without a definition separating the jaw from the neck, and those who want a more crisp, defined jawline. In a consultation, the structure of the face, the elasticity of the skin, the patient’s goals, and any concerns they have are taken into account to find the procedure and the filler that is right to help attain their objectives.

How Long Do The Effects of Jawline Fillers Last?

One of the best things about jawline contouring with dermal fillers is the longevity of the results. Some of the dermal fillers we use, such as Voluma, can last up to two years.

The longevity of the results you see with dermal fillers depends on the filler used. Some results may last as little as three months while some, as mentioned, can last up to two years. Make sure to discuss the longevity of the product at your consultation to ensure that you get the results you want.

When Will Results Be Seen from Jawline Fillers?

For most of the dermal fillers used in our office, you will be able to notice the results immediately. Other treatments may be recommended to help you reach your overall goals, but the results from injectable fillers are immediate in most cases.

Are Dermal Fillers Better Than Botox?

It’s not an issue of dermal filler or Botox being better than the other, it’s more an issue of the patient’s goals for treatment. Botox and dermal fillers are used in different ways and to achieve different goals. For some patients, a combination of both a dermal filler and Botox may offer the best results, while in other patients one or the other may be the best course of action. During a consultation, you can determine with our help which is the best for you.

Will Dermal Fillers at the Jawline Make It Look Larger?

A lot of patients wonder if adding volume through fillers to the jawline will make the lower part of the face appear larger and fuller. As you age, the volume of the face is impacted and the jaw begins to lose its definition. By restoring or creating a more youthful definition at the jaw using dermal fillers, the entire face can become more balanced. In fact, sometimes adding fillers will give the optical illusion of a slimmer more defined jaw!

What Causes a Weak Jawline?

For many people, genetics is the main factor in the appearance of a weak or underdeveloped jawline. But as you age, the loss of fat, volume, and even in some cases bone density can result in a weakened jawline for which many non-surgical options, such as dermal fillers, are available.

Are There Other Treatments Available to Help with a Sagging Jawline?

At Cosmetic Injectables, we use collagen stimulation techniques with our patients to help firm the skin and enhance the jawline. Aside from dermal fillers, we also suggest treatments such as Laswergensis, Viora radiofrequency, and NovaThreads

Unhappy with Your Jawline?

If you’re unhappy with your jawline you don’t have to simply resign yourself to dealing with it. There are minimally invasive procedures, such as dermal fillers, that can provide you with the results you want and reverse the processes of aging that are leading you to be unhappy with your jawline.

Whatever your concerns, the experts at Cosmetic Injectables are here to help you improve your appearance and feel more confident in the process!
