Everything You Need To Know About The Newest Treatments For Hair Loss

by | Injectables

Have you noticed your hair coming out in clumps? Does the part in your hair suddenly seem wider than normal?

Hair loss is completely natural, but many people view it as alarming. However, losing a few strands in the shower doesn’t always mean something’s wrong. The average human loses somewhere between 50 and 100 strands a day, and nearly everyone experiences some hair loss over time. Plus, as we age, our overall hair density changes and individual strands become finer.

However, every once in a while hair loss is a symptom of something else. If your hair loss seems sudden and excessive, it’s important to talk with your doctor about other possibilities including hormone issues, thyroid issues, anemia, alopecia, and more.

Fortunately, there are a number of treatments to help encourage and strengthen regrowth, such as PRP, PRF, and CGF treatments.

What are these treatments, and how do they work?

Platelet Rich Plasma and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRP & PRF) as well as Concentrated Growth Factor (CGF) are some of the most natural ways to induce collagen and human growth factor injections. Essentially, these treatments stimulate hair growth without chemicals through the use of platelets from your own body.

To perform the treatment, a small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn into a sterile vial. The vial is then spun in a centrifuge machine, which separates the nutrient-rich plasma from the blood. This forms a custom serum using your body’s own PRP, filled with natural growth factors. The PRP is then injected back into the vascular layer of your scalp in order to stimulate new hair growth, increase the size of hair shafts, and decrease hair loss.

How often should someone book a treatment?

For the average patient, 1-2 treatments a year will be needed, though more may be required depending on the patient’s health goals. Sessions are typically spaced 2-6 months apart.

What are the risks and common side effects?

These treatments are considered safe for all skin types, even those with dark or particularly sensitive skin. This is largely because the possibility of an allergic reaction is almost zero, as the plasma comes from the patient’s own body.

As far as side effects, patients sometimes see temporary bruising or swelling as a result of the injection.

Is there any downtime?

With an injection, patients usually see no downtime unless bruising or swelling occurs, both of which can last up to two weeks. Laser treatment is available to expedite the healing of any bruises, and the swelling can be treated with oral medication.

How comfortable is the procedure?

With the use of topical anesthetic cream, the procedure can be made very comfortable for the majority of patients.
